Rights and media

NFT Digital Asset Screener

An NFT can connect a token record, a media file, and an advertised benefit without making those elements interchangeable. This framework helps you investigate each relationship before relying on a collection description. Establish the exact token, locate the material it references, read the terms covering the intended use, and identify any service that must remain available. Keep current evidence separate from promised features. A useful review explains both what a holder can demonstrate today and which permissions or benefits still require clarification from a responsible party.

What to examine

Know what ownership includes

01

Token and provenance

Record the network, contract, and token identifier before examining collection history. Describe what each transaction or creator statement establishes. Keep the origin of the token, the identity of the creator, and the origin of referenced media as separate questions with their own clearly identified supporting evidence.

02

Media and permissions

Locate the referenced content and the terms associated with its use. Match those terms to the intended activity, such as personal display or commercial reproduction. Preserve the version reviewed, the stated conditions, and any uncertainty about duration, transfer, or the authority of the party granting permission.

03

Benefits and dependencies

List the benefits currently described and the operator responsible for each. Identify required accounts, applications, eligibility conditions, and expiry dates. Treat a proposed feature as a separate claim awaiting evidence of delivery, then examine what happens to each existing benefit when the token changes hands.

A practical review sequence

Build your evidence record.

  1. 01

    Confirm the exact item

Match the token identifiers across the available project and market records. Preserve the observation date and any migration history that affects the match. Resolve conflicting identifiers before using transaction history, attribute comparisons, or sale records to describe the item under review.

  2. 02

    Follow the content reference

Retrieve the metadata and media through the documented route, recording what was accessible. Identify who can change the relevant references and who maintains availability. Keep any saved review copy distinct from evidence that future holders will continue receiving the same content.

  3. 03

    Map the intended use

Write the activity the holder expects to perform, then identify the terms that address it. Record conditions and unanswered questions beside that activity. If the proposed use depends on an uncertain rights interpretation, make the need for appropriate clarification explicit in the review.

  4. 04

    Walk through a transfer

Examine a hypothetical resale from the next holder's perspective. Check whether associated access, permissions, or accounts require additional steps. Document the responsible operator and expected evidence of completion for each benefit so successful token movement does not silently close the entire review.

Primary-source context: ERC-721: Non-Fungible Token Standard. Use it alongside the asset-specific records relevant to your review.

Questions to resolve

Before you
go further.

Does token ownership establish artwork rights?

The review should locate the separate permission or license associated with the content. Identify which activities it covers, who presents it, and the conditions attached. A token record provides a starting point for those checks; it does not answer every question about using the artwork.

What if the referenced image becomes unavailable?

Document the failed retrieval, the route used, and any alternative source examined. Identify who is responsible for maintaining the content and what the project says about recovery. Avoid treating an available marketplace thumbnail as complete evidence of the underlying storage and access arrangement.

How should roadmap benefits be assessed?

Keep proposed benefits separate from functions that can currently be demonstrated. Record the responsible party, stated conditions, and dependencies for delivery. If a benefit influences the review, identify the specific evidence that would be needed to move it from proposed to available.
